MY STYLE: I’M A MISFIT

by snapped4style on February 6, 2013

My previous post showed how to wear this outfit for Fall/Winter and since Spring is around the corner, I thought I’d do a preview…

Knee-highs with ankle booties inspired by Beyonce/Destiny’s Child Superbowl outfit
Black and White Stripes
I’d wear this to go shopping, lunch with friends, dive bar, rooftop party.Jacket, Forever 21, Tee, Bravado Misfit

MY STYLE: LAYING LOW

by snapped4style on February 6, 2013

My style has taken on a euro/hipster vibe…purposely. The longer version of that would be a lil’ of Lower East Side, a lil’ of Brooklyn, and a dash of London. I love the idea of of dressing low key, but still looking casually edgy.

I would wear this to a dive bar, an informal loft party or local gallery exhibit, and to grab an espresso with some friends in the East Village.

In California it may only be 7ish, but here in NYC it’s time for me to get to bed..ehhnn not really, but I do have a job interview in the morning and the red carpet pics I’d like to blog about aren’t available yet…so here’s a preview of what I loved and saw so far with a trend report to follow soon!

Lea Michelle in Ellie Saab 2013:

TREND: Colored lace steps it up another notch by placement of matching embellishments.

I love the hot pink color!  The overall look is figure skater meets 80s prom and the beautiful coral reefs of the sea. It was a refreshing color to see amongst the attendees.

TREND: I call it the MMM, MULTIPLE MESSY MILK BRAID

Lea and Katy Perry also displayed another version of the Kim Kardashian messy braid, inspired by Charlize Theron’s character in Snow White in the Huntsman.

Katy’s version is more ethereal.  Gold lame like ribbon is intertwined with the braid.

Remember to check back for the trends we’ll be seeing more of in 2013!

Edie Sedgwick is one of my all time favorite fashion icons.  When I saw Factory Girl, I fell in love and wish she could’ve known how awesome she was! She exemplifies the true meaning of self styled street style and the thing is I don’t even think she tried.  Some of her signature styles were opaque tights (sometimes worn with no shoes) over-sized statement earrings, heavy eye make up, and BRETON STRIPES. Designers fall in love with her eccentric beatnik style time and time again and Marc Jacobs brought her style to life for his 2013 Spring Collection.

“IT’S SHOWTIME!”

American Apparel

The trend is black and white color contrast, but you can always have fun by adding a splash of color with tops, fun socks or shoes. Just think of  stripes as a solid color, pretty much anything will go with black and white..even black and white milkshakes!

Now that sharing your spotlight with your smart phone is a norm, make a statement in 2013 with a fashionable phone case.  Get creative with your back ground and leave those bathroom shots in 2012!  You look cute right…but there’s nothing cute about the bathroom…right ?

Iphone case by 3.1 Phillip Lim

The new trend is all about 3D and textured cases (not available yet)

This one is my fave. Iphone case by Rebecca Minkoff  (not in stores yet)

This case was recently requested by someone I personal shop for.  Again you’re seeing the 3D trend

This is one of my favorites.

If you haven’t experienced Santacon then you haven’t experienced the Christmas spirit..in New York City that is! Thousands and thousands of Santas come out for a day dressing up in Christmas themes, drinking, and lots of donating to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and City Harvest.

FYI, you’re never too old for Santacon. I saw plenty of people waaay past their 30s enjoying this yuletide event!  If crowds and bar crawls aren’t your thing trust me, it’s worth talking a short walk or look out your window to see elf sightings and droves of santas covering the pavement.  The energy is exciting!

It’s also fun to see all the fashion interpretations of good ol’ Saint Nick and his friends.

Headed to the starting point at Hudson Pier 48, this guy gave me beads on the way…off to a good start already!

I loved this couple’s dark yet whimsical spin on Christmas.

The scene entering Hudson Pier 48, you could feel the Santa spirit in the air..it was so exciting!

The day couldn’t have been any prettier.  The sky was clear, the air was crisp, and it wasn’t that cold for the 15th of December. Here’s Kristy, she got a lot of camera attention in her elf outfit as she jingled her way through the day… literally!

Group shot before the official festivities. Yep, that’s Jude Law & Lucy Hale standing between Kristy & me…jk, but they sure do look like them don’t they!

Inspired by Frosty the Snowman & Swan Lake

Dancing and performing hula hoop tricks..this was one of the many things Santa’s helpers were doing to celebrate.

Viking Santa! I love the bearded braid and the peek-a-boo flannel cuffs.

First stop, Bowlmor Lanes in Times Sq for some bowling! My bow got so many compliments all day!

I really liked this place.  The lanes are in different areas of the venue.  Very cool and quaint.

Grease lightning go grease lighting..getting her Sandra Dee on! (Photo from Google Images)

One of the many stops throughout the day, 230 5th Ave Rooftop.  I love that girls are totally embracing the androgyny trend and owning their moustaches!  Not to mention these girls put the D.I.Y. into their nutcracker outfits. They used piping to create the brocade designs, added tassles to the straps of their bustier and tanks, paired it with a fashionable gold belt, toy guns, and tutus! Tada!

Loved her 80′s inspired yet modern way of looking like a trendy elf.  Good luck with your acting career!

Is this a great shot or what! The view of the skyline was absolutely breathtaking!
This pretty much sets the scene of the whole day everywhere you went….tons and tons of red santa outfits. It put a big smile on my face!

If you missed the fun check out the images on Google  and be sure to go next year!
